Extreme Diabetes

I have been trying to get my husband to go to his primary care doctor for about 6 months.
He has always been a junk food junky and no matter what I said he would not give it up.

He had lost 18#’s in the last 6 month and he was very hungry. He was getting up several times in the night to pee.

I had my suspicions and even told him I felt like he had diabetes but he kept ignoring all the signs.

At his long-overdue Dr. visit His A1C was 11.6 which is a 3 month average of 285 for his glucose. That is very very high in fact his Doctor used the words Extreme Diabetes.

Normal A1C is 4 – 5.6 and normal glucose is less than 100 when fasting. He had fasted for 20 hours prior to his appointment because the soonest appointment we could get was 3:30 in the afternoon.

He started on his medication on Saturday so we could watch for side effects. There were plenty of those on the first day and different ones on the second day.
He stayed home on Monday to allow his body an extra day to get used to the new medication.

He is taking Xigduo XR 5mg/1000mg 1 pill a day for the first week then he ups that to 2 pills a day.

The junk food junkie is getting a big reality check in his daily diet and some things will be harder than others.
Potato Chips, Chocolate, Cokes and Diet Cokes have to be given up.

His favorite foods are potatoes, pasta, and rice. A few times a month will be about it on those and then it has to be brown rice and wheat pasta.
Potatoes will be rarely.

Wish me luck dealing with a My Junk Food Junkie.

Low does CT Lung Scan

I had my low dose CT lung scan # 3 on Tuesday.

This test is a breeze to do maybe 10 minutes at the most but its waiting for the results that is the hardest part. I think that is because I have had breast cancer and I know that there is a chance for recurrance the first 5 years.

I see the pulmonologist later this month for the results of the CT lung scan and my breathing issues. The 2 inhalers and the Asthma medication seem to helping I no longer feel like I am suffocating.

Balance and inner peace

Often times we walk past something without noticing it.

Then one day we look down and see the beauty in the Verbena that is cascading across the moss rock. It is those days that let me know my life is in balance and that I have inner peace.

Life is simple but sometimes our minds are so cluttered with things we never get to find that balance.

Take a deep breath walk outside and look for something that brings you joy. Stand there and enjoy the moment.

The Azalia’s are blooming

One of the first signs spring is near is when the Azalia’s are blooming.

We planted ours about 35 + years ago and they have always performed quite well.

I wanted to plant Azalia’s because my grandmother loved her’s so much and every time they bloom I think of her. They are a gentle reminder that even though she passed away many years ago some people always leave a footprint on your heart & soul.

Azalia’s are not a lot of trouble you just have to remember not to trim back past the first of October or they will not bloom in the spring.

The beauty of these plants is the show they put on each spring as a gentle reminder life is full of beauty take the time to enjoy the view.

Life

There has been so much going on here since the hurricane I have not had the time to post or read post.

I hope to get back to posting and reading soon.

Gossip

Often people say things to hurt others and there is no reason for this.

There would be a lot less gossip going on if everyone followed these simple rules.
