Gifts from the Heart

When I was a young girl I remember this cedar chest in the middle bedroom at my grandparents house.

We were never told not to look it in but we didn’t dare because we were not medley children.

Years went by and it sat in the same place I remember after I was married asking my grandmother what was in it. She said some old pictures and stuff. I said we should take the pics out and label them but she was not feeling well at the time and we decided we would do it at another time. Of course, the next time never came because she died within a few months of us talking about doing this.

After my grandmother died in December 1989 my mother was given the cedar chest by her dad he said she was the only girl and it should be passed down to her and then she could pass it down to me one day. As the oldest daughter I never really thought much about it but I love the ideas of things being passed down to the next generation.

It sat for years in my mom and dad’s house at the end of the bed. When my mother passed away in November 2019 I forgot about the cedar chest. I remembered it months later and realized it had probably already been taken from the premises like so many other things were.

The family items recently went onto a family-only auction this is NOT a good idea some people bid stuff up out of spite to keep others from getting it and they do not know the back story to the stuff. Some people use rude names as a bidding name and act like 2 years old. Family auctions are just not a good answer to family matters and an estate. Find another solution if you can and please do not have a family auction.

The cedar chest was listed but once I saw the price going up fast I knew I was not going to bid on it I was sad because I knew someday it was supposed to be mine.

During the last hours of the auction, I was following the ambulance to the ER with my mother n law.

Later that night while I was in the ER with her I received a text from our oldest son Joshua and our youngest daughter Jeanelle they had been mutually bidding on the chest and they won it for a whopping $850.00. They knew each other was bidding but were both placing bids so they could ensure they won it.

They bid on this cedar chest for me I never asked them to do that and I would have never paid that much for it but since they had been told the story of the cedar chest they felt like I should have it. This is truly a gift from the heart and it brings tears to my eyes.

I am so grateful that Joshua and Jeanelle thought of doing this for me it is one of the most thoughtful amazing gifts I have ever received. I am so blessed to have them both in my life and very appreciative they are so thoughtful. Thank you both so much for doing this for me.

I know my grandmother and my mother would both be excited that I ended up with it since it was supposed to be mine one day.

It needs to be refinished but it made it through Hurricane Harvey and survived but has some damage on the legs. I guess it’s my responsibility to take care of it so I can pass it down to Jeanelle one day and she can pass it down to her girls and keep the family tradition going.

Gifts from the heart are the best kind of gifts.

Birthdays and Anniversaries

Cricket turned 9 months on November 2 she has finally started jumping and lets just say I feel her power when the ground shakes beneath me.

Our daughter Jeanelle thinks she is about 135#s I am thinking 120#s. Either way this is one big girl. Hopefully this week we can get a weight on her.

She had a training session at the park with people playing basketball, kids playing soccer, Tennis lessons going on and lots of people walking and running and nothing seemed to bother her. That was a lot of distractions and the trainer and I were both surprised she did so well.

Hopefully I can get some new pics this week.

Our wedding anniversary is today and its been 42 years. We have lived in the same house for almost 42 years its crazy when I think about it.

This week we got to put a new upstairs unit in for our central ac and heat that was $4500.00. I am very grateful we had the cash to pay for this. We did not have to replace the outside unit thank goodness that would have been another $5000.00.

I guess this was our anniversary present to each other.

There is 24 acres behind us and the far 12 acres is for sale and is pending sale for $660,000.00.

A cousins house down the road is for sale for $465,000.00 it is on 4.65 acres.

This area is very hot in the real estate market right now which is a good thing if we decide to sell.

Life is GOOD we are very blessed and thankful.

A busy week

Over the last week it has been quite busy for me.

I had a follow up Arterial doppler to make sure my stent it working correctly and that no other issues have popped up. All is good.

My yearly mammogram and I got the call back the same day all was good.

Our daughter Jeanelle and I made a road trip to Waco, Texas it was a little get away while Pappy watched the kids. With her four kids you just need to make sure you have enough food.

Sometimes just getting away for a few hours is good for your mind, body and soul.

Life is good!

Moon shadows

Taking pictures of the moon can be a bit tricky sometimes.

I took this as the moon was setting and the sun was rising. I used my big lens and I tried to be as still as possible since the only light was the moon.

The sun rises in back of our house and sets in the front of our house.

The moon was setting in front of the house.

Goodnight Moon!

Spam emails not from Amazon

I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon we are prime members and who can pass up free shipping on a great deal.

Over the last month, I have been getting spam text messages from a fake amazon saying for me to click a link to check on a package I have ordered. Well, it looks funny so I never click on that stuff knowing its not a good thing.

Always remember to check your main source first before clicking a spam or spoof email.

Extreme Diabetes

I have been trying to get my husband to go to his primary care doctor for about 6 months.
He has always been a junk food junky and no matter what I said he would not give it up.

He had lost 18#’s in the last 6 month and he was very hungry. He was getting up several times in the night to pee.

I had my suspicions and even told him I felt like he had diabetes but he kept ignoring all the signs.

At his long-overdue Dr. visit His A1C was 11.6 which is a 3 month average of 285 for his glucose. That is very very high in fact his Doctor used the words Extreme Diabetes.

Normal A1C is 4 – 5.6 and normal glucose is less than 100 when fasting. He had fasted for 20 hours prior to his appointment because the soonest appointment we could get was 3:30 in the afternoon.

He started on his medication on Saturday so we could watch for side effects. There were plenty of those on the first day and different ones on the second day.
He stayed home on Monday to allow his body an extra day to get used to the new medication.

He is taking Xigduo XR 5mg/1000mg 1 pill a day for the first week then he ups that to 2 pills a day.

The junk food junkie is getting a big reality check in his daily diet and some things will be harder than others.
Potato Chips, Chocolate, Cokes and Diet Cokes have to be given up.

His favorite foods are potatoes, pasta, and rice. A few times a month will be about it on those and then it has to be brown rice and wheat pasta.
Potatoes will be rarely.

Wish me luck dealing with a My Junk Food Junkie.

Low does CT Lung Scan

I had my low dose CT lung scan # 3 on Tuesday.

This test is a breeze to do maybe 10 minutes at the most but its waiting for the results that is the hardest part. I think that is because I have had breast cancer and I know that there is a chance for recurrance the first 5 years.

I see the pulmonologist later this month for the results of the CT lung scan and my breathing issues. The 2 inhalers and the Asthma medication seem to helping I no longer feel like I am suffocating.
