The inspiration of color

In the wintertime finding a glimpse of color can sometimes be all the inspiration, we need to find hope and put a smile on our face.

This Mexican heather is truly an amazing plant ours blooms all spring, summer and most of the winter.

This time of year it is a breath of fresh air standing up and saying “I am here take notice.”

We move forward with our lives each day without realizing time is passing us by.

Do something today to make a difference in someone else’s life.

The death of my mom

My mom passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, and we buried her on Friday, November 22, 2019.

She will be missed by all who loved her and respected her.

Our family spent the evening at the homestead in Pearland, Texas that my sister and I grew up in. Our oldest son Joshua and his wife Cori ordered Olive Garden which was my mom’s favorite place to eat and we just sat around and talked. It was really nice to be around family & friends who felt the same way about her as I did.

When an elderly person loses a spouse their life is forever changed. My mom’s life pretty much started declining when my dad passed away five years ago in September.

This made her very vulnerable to some family members she trusted with her life.

My mom was emotionally, psychologically and financially abused and I will spend my lifetime getting justice for my mom who never deserved that treatment from anyone.

In the state of Texas, all wills have to be probated this takes about 45 days and NOONE is allowed to take anything jewelry, money or personal belongings until that happens. I had taken pictures of all my mom’s jewelry during Hurricane Harvey so it will all be accounted for down to every single ring and necklace.

Mom, I hope you find peace and happiness with my dad and grandparents.

I love you today, tomorrow, always and forever and until the end of time.

Concrete Mushrooms

Working with concrete and hypertufa is by far my two of my favorite medias.

I wanted to make a few concrete mushrooms but I wanted them to be different. I knew I wanted to use the Hypertufa so they would have the rough appearance with holes, dips and scraggly looking edges. I even chipped off more edges to add to the appearance.

The tops were made with plastic bowls and the bottoms were made with large cardboard oatmeal containers. My favorite one is the yellow one because the top is tapered and to me it looks more like a real mushroom.

Painting them was fun the blending of colors, adding some metallics, adding stones and finally working on the stems and adding large fleck glitter to marine spar to get the look I wanted.

I ended up painting marine spar on the entire mushroom to weatherproof it and lessen the chance of the colors fading.

At first they would not sit up straight so I found some rocks I could glue to the base underneath and that helped.

These mushrooms took quite a few stones to get the look I wanted. I found the stones at my local Hobby Lobby and the At Home Store & I used E6000 to glue the stones on. I would say roughly I spent about $12.00 on all the stones and $5.00 on the glue.

Do I like everything I create that is a big NO but every project I create makes someone happy because I give away a lot of the stuff I create.

Creativity allows me to express myself, think of new challenges, find inspiration in everyday life and it allows me to use my imagintation for something artistic.

Creativity engages the mind and allows us to make a connection with ourself. Creative expression gives us a voice without words. It gives us confidence to know we can do anything we want to do.

It keeps our mind active which is very important as we get older noone wants a mushy mind.

Creative people are very happy people because they can breathe deeply and take in life one project at a time.

40th. Wedding Anniversary

Today is Jack and my 40th. wedding anniversary. It honestly does not seem like that many years to either of us.

We have 4 grown kids 3 of which are married, 2 daughter in laws and one son in law, & 7  beautiful grandkids 5 girls and 2 boys.

We have lived in our house for 39 and 3/4 years but feel we might be forced to move soon due to recent subdivision development in our area. It is just to close for comfort for the both of us. Everyday we here hammering, nail guns and slamming of boards from early a.m. to late p.m. Thank goodness the time changed and it now gets dark earlier lol.

We liked the quiet of country living and the simple life that came with it.

Jack will be retiring in the next year or two and that is when we will probably make our move. We have no idea where we will move to for the next part of our journey together.

I need to schedule an appt. to get our pictures taken I would rather not do them myself this time. The last time I took them was our 35th. anniversary.

Our life is wonderful together and we love each other very much. I would not have made it through the last year without Jack and his support.

Have a great New Year

2017 has been quite a year for me I’ve had to realize that somethings in life change and are never the same again.

When you surround yourself with positive, caring and loving people your life will always be better.

Most of all I have had some really big obstacles to overcome that I have not blogged about yet but I will be blogging about them soon.

I have a great outlook on life and the future and I hope I can inspire others to do the same. We have to live each day to it’s fullest and never let anyone drag you down.

Happy New Years everyone and may this year be bright and wonderful for us all.

Thirty nine years

Today 39 – years ago my husband and I were married.

We have raised four children, two boys, and two girls.

We have seven grandchildren. Two boys and five girls.

Life moved along so fast with the children and we were busy all the time with their activities. Sometimes it felt like there was no time to even breathe.

I love our life, our home and the time we have spent together. I love our projects we tackle that keep us so busy and challenge us.

The last anniversary picture I did was at 35 years so I might do another one.

Happy Anniversary to my wonderful husband I love you forever and always.
