Cricket’s Cherry Eyes

Cricket our Cane Corso pup developed Cherry Eye on Monday.

Two days prior to this her eyes were draining some I thought she had an allergy but that was only until she woke up with her eyes looking like this.

Two of Zelda’s pups have developed this disorder the other one Crickets sibling only has one eye so far and they prefer to do surgery when it’s both.

It looks terrible, her eyes are draining constantly and she can not see looking down very well. I took these pictures on Tuesday of this week. I have been using warm paper towels to wipe her eyes 4 – 5 times a day.

This is very common in the Mastiff breed, Cane Corso, or any dog with loose skin baggy eyes such as a basset hound. They cut and clip to remove the third eyelid that causes this.

A big thank you to Suburbia North Animal Hospital in Houston off FM 1960. She had her surgey on Friday. It was worth the hour drive to find someone who specializes in this.

Cricket is not a fan of strangers so she barked and slightly growled at these people in mask and gloves.  She has a bark that would keep anyone from entering our house and that is a good thing.

So much for curbside pick up I ended up taking her into the vet and putting her in the kennel then I had to go in and get her. My mean puppy.

She whined all the way home feeling sorry for herself we are home now and shes under the desk which is her norm.

She will be 6 months on August 2nd and weighs in at 87#s she towers over Daisy and Zoee.  She runs like a galloping horse she is very mighty just not very fast but she thinks she is.

Our poor little puppy looked so bad with her eyes like this.

Surgery Update:

Surgery went well and she does not have to wear a C Collar YES!

They said eat and drink slowly today due to the anesthesia.

I am enclosing pics of after surgery so you can see how much this was bothering her and how much better she looks. She has stitches in both eyes and they are swollen a little. The eyes are bleeding some but its a very vascular area so this is to be expected and should only last today..

Pet emergencys happen and the fur babies count on us to help them.

Cricket is 4 months old

Cricket is our 4 months old Cane Corso she is weighing in at a whopping 55#s.

She is not easy to get good pics of because she’s a bit lazy but with Jack helping me we were able to get these shots while using dog biscuits to bribe her.

When she walks she stomps so her feet sound like someone in flip flops on our wood floors. I have never seen a dog with such big feet.

She loves the grandkids but of course, they help raise all the puppies so she remembers them.

Zelda’s litter was 7 puppies this was Crickets litter they are all dual registered.

Ravens litter were ICCF Registered and there were 11 puppies but 1 died.

The two litters were 3 weeks apart in age things were a bit crazy for awhile trying to make sure all the pups got plenty of exercise and were well adjusted to children.

They all sold very quickly due to the quality of the puppies. Right now there are 2 pups Crickets age in special training one is guard dog training and the other is in obedience training.

Our daughter has Storm a 1-year-old black female Cane Corso that has not been bred yet is at a special training camp for a one-month training on obedience.

I am currently looking for a local trainer that works with obedience training that is reasonably priced. Most of these are $800.00 – $1500.00 for a months worth of training and that is with you taking them back and forth.

I have managed to potty train her, teach her to sit and walk on a leash but that is it so far.

Cricket week 12

Our Cane Corso Cricket is 12 weeks old now and she loves to eat, play and find sticks.

She eats 4 cups of food every morning and every evening. We buy a high protein puppy food with 28% protein and 20% fat. It is called Valu-pak and we buy it at the feed store by the 50# bag. I think it’s about $35.00.

Our daughter researches a lot of dog foods because the Cane Corso are high energy dogs and they need some really good high protein food. This one was better than the Iams  I was feeding the two boxers. I just put them all three on the puppy/ active dog food.

She was 20#s at 8 1/2 weeks and now at 12 weeks is weighing in at 37#s. She has gained 17#s in a month lol. That seems like an awful lot but she is not fat just stocky and she has a thick body.

She likes to sit or lay down during picture time so much for showing off her physique.

Zoee and her spend a lot of time wrestling so she can be quite active when she wants to be. They have a hole they dig in and they love tug of war with sticks and chase.

Her blue eyes are starting to change colors they will end up being a Goldy brownish color. She had on one of Daisy’s collars in this picture so it was too big. I need to order her a new collar I hate trying to figure out the collar colors. I need to get her a name tag as well with my cell number on it.

Actually, I need to get all 3 dogs chipped.

We expect her to be a minimum of 125# pounds but it could be more she is much stockier than her sister is. We thought the sister would be bigger than her.

Cricket the monster dog will be showing up occasionally to give you all updates of how much she has grown.

Cane Corso Pup named Cricket

Miss. Cricket is an 8 1/2 week old Cane Corso.

Zelda had 6 puppies they are the ones I took pictures of a while back she was one of them.

Our granddaughter Sophia named her when she was little I told her I will keep the name but add to it.

We are coowning her with our daughter Jeanelle. She kept the other female pup Hippo and we have this one. I think the two females were the ones in the box by themselves in the last photo session.

She’s a little bit insecure being away from her littermates. Potty training is an A+ and she goes in the kennel with no problems at night.

We have had her 3 days and Daisy and Zoee are tolerating her at this point but getting along okay. She has tried to nurse from both of them and they have told her NO! She is an ankle biter and I am trying to break that habit quickly.

I told Zoee in a month she will be bigger than her. These dogs grow so fast it’s unreal.

Zelda’s pups are sold but Raven’s pups there were 11 and shes taking deposits on them now. There were quite a few solid grey/ blue ones.

I have not had a chance to do pictures of Raven’s bunch due to this quarantine but I can assure you they are beautiful pups. She has been taking pics and putting them on her Facebook page.

You can find her pups here on WordPress:  https://shadyacresrosharon.wordpress.com/

or on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ShadyAcresRosharon/

All these pups are raised with four kids running and playing with them all the time. They are also raised around other dogs.

Zelda’s Cane Corso Pups 2 weeks old

These pups are two weeks old and the first litter out of Zelda for Shady Acres Rosharon she is 2 years and 11 months old Formentino.

Her previous owner bred her once. She is such a sweet dog and an amazing mama dog.

There are 4 boys and 2 girls but I think our daughter is keeping one of the girls the pink collar one. She thinks she will be a blue Corso.

These were shot outside and its very overcast so I feel like their true color is off in these pics.

We will do more pics at 4 weeks to get the true colors.

They are all so cute. This mornings weigh-in was from  1.95 – 3.15 #s

This batch of puppies will be AKC & ICCF registered.

All Together Pic:

Girls: Purple collar is howling.

Boys: Very cooperative look at the head size difference lol.
