We have paid the mulcher 2 times to clear our property then we paid the tree plucker 2 times plus he did some mulching at the end.
None of this would have been possible without our daughter Jeanelle supervising the mulchers and tree pluckers while they were there. Our son-in-law David did our first burning and it took a few days to burn out.
Basically, if you are buying forest land please know up front this will cost you about $5000.00 to do for two acres.
They have to clear an area so you can burn the trees without burning the forest. This of course has to happen when there is no burn ban. In the meantime, you have huge piles of trees to look at. This picture was at the beginning of the new piles the second tree plucking and after the first burning of piles.
What you can do is pick and choose the trees you want to keep. We wanted to keep some magnolias, sweet gums, oaks, maples and a few we were not sure of the names. I love trees and I know it takes a long time to get them to grow very big. I wanted to save plenty of trees even if we have to cut some down later on. We found 10-foot tall or taller magnolias.
Next up we will get the electricity and the well.
We think we are building kinda to the left in this picture. Every time we go there we have problems trying to decide. It’s not easy to figure this out especially when you know later on you will add onto this for your new permanent residence.
Right now we have sunrise behind us and sunset in front of us it really is perfect.
In the cabin, I want a lot of large windows as many as I can get because I want to see the outdoors while indoors. In other words, I want to be one with nature.
Being surrounded by trees and wildlife is going to be wonderful plus having the grandkids within walking distance down the trails.

Lots of work, but it’s beautiful land.
