Baby Cardinal learning to fly

This young cardinal is somewhere between 9 – 11 days old that is when they fledge the nest.

The day before yesterday I was watering the shrub it was in and boy did it squeal. With our current drought, there’s not been a lot of rain. I had no idea there was a nest in the shrub.

A few hours later I look out and I see the parents circling it to get off a limb of another shrub and fly. I got to get a few pictures in between all the action. I can hear them fussing so I know the baby is not listening.

This was my first time seeing a cardinal fledgling and I adore red birds so this meant a lot to me.
