An opossum in a tree

The opossum are often called nature’s garbage disposal.

They eat fruit, bugs, spiders, rats, mice, snakes, compost, dead plants, and animals.

Jack has a compost pile I am sure they are enjoying. Since we have no chickens all the vegetable and fruits scraps go in there along with the eggshells, tea bags, and coffee grinds.

They can be scary looking when they show their teeth and hiss at you but they are scared of humans and will leave when they see you.

This youngster climbed this dead tree near the back fence and she stayed there a good while I think she realized she was pretty high up.

Notice how long her tail is going down the left side of the tree.

In the last week, we have seen squirrels, rabbits, and opossums. Last month it was water snakes and armadillos.

Maybe I should put out the game camera and see what else is lurking around at night.
