Baked Parmesean Squash

I had seen this recipe and wanted to try it.

We put up a lot of a squash this year so we have plenty to experiment with.

Cut yellow squash or zucchini into thin circles and place on large baking sheet with parchment paper first.

Sprinkle salt, pepper and garlic powder. Then sprinkle parmesean cheese .

Bake at 425 degrees for 15 – 20 minutes until parmesean is golden brown.

This was really good and something different to do with squash. A kid that does not like veggies much would love this.

Painted Gourd Birdhouses

Jack got down the gourds that my grandfather gave me 25+ years ago.

I knew I wanted to make birdhouses out of them someday but I kept forgetting about them.

They were quite dried out which is a good thing and they were full of seeds I can plant. Seeds do not expire lol. A ziplock bag of seeds out of each gourd.

These two are for our yard.

I have the third one primed for my sister Sheri who can paint it like she wants it painted.

I wanted these painted using the same technique but using different colors. I used metallic paints and then a coat of Marine Spar for protection and shine. The hole saw for the hole and the drill for the top holes for hanging.

The yellow and green one got rained on since it was already in a tree in the backyard. The blue ones home is being determined but I think it will go in the front yard.

Thank You to my grandfather ( Daddy Dub ) for my gourds even though it has taken me many years to get my project done.

Purple showers and barbed wire

We have purple showers planted everywhere around here they are easy to grow and invasive so they spread quickly.

The scientific name is Ruellia simplex ‘Purple Showers also known as mexican petunia.

There is something about flowers, fence post and barbed wire that I love.

Flu Shot Time

I went in for my yearly primary care checkup.  I also needed this year’s flu shot and the 2nd part of the pneumonia shot I had forgotten to get.

Normally the pneumonia shot is given at age 65 but when you have crappy lungs they give it to you early because no one wants you getting pneumonia.

I love primary care because I ask a ton of questions and always get my answers. I love that our Drs Office have a message portal and if anything comes up you can send a message and get an answer that same day.

The new medication 1st.pill gave me a mouth full of pencil eraser size ulcers all under my tongue on the sides and underneath and in my throat. Needless to say, that is NOT the pill for me. I am on day two of trying to get rid of these mouth ulcers. Gargling with salt water and swishing some maalox.

It is so hard sometimes because my body hates medication and sometimes it has the rare side effects that most people never get.

Make sure you all get your flu shot so the flu does not spread to 1000’s of people.

Does anyone else have extreme reactions to medications?

Sheltie Puppy Party

This is my sister Sheri’s and her husbands David two new Sheltie pups they are 4-month-old siblings.

The brown one Missy Hogan is the female and the black and grey one Turbo is the male he has one blue eye.

Trying to keep two very active pups still for pictures was quite the challenge but my sister and I were able to pull it off.

Next time we will try to add in the cat now that should be exciting.

Bird bath party time

I have been taking quite a few pics lately of the birds having birdbath parties.

Out of the corner of my eye I spotted some very bright low and behold it was a Bullock’s Oriole. These birds are from West Texas not our area so its not wonder I have never seen one before. I had to come in and grab my Birds of Texas book and look him up.

Notice the water spraying across the picture from the action of the birds in the water.

I have seen him two days in a row and both times he was with the Eastern Bluebirds so I am guessing they are friends.

Since the birds seem to crowd into the shallow birdbath the most I am going to take my deep ones and turn them into planters and I will figure out how to have a trough type bird bath so 20 or so can get in at the same time. Just imagine the pictures with that.

Its so funny because there will be 8 in the birdbath and another 8 flying around waiting for the shallow birdbath. By the time they are done there is no water left in the birdbath.

I go out and refill it and they will come back while I am still outside.

I love my birds as much as my grandmother and my dad did.

Appreciate the beauty of nature it is all around us take the time to enjoy it each and everyday.

A foggy October morning

October 3, 2019 at 7:15 a.m. it was 72 Degrees with 94% Humidity in Manvel, Texas.

The humidity has been high all week long and the temperatures get around 95 degrees during the day.

I love the fog and its mystery so naturally my camera and I went outdoors to take a few pics.
