Yellow Jackets

This hive of Yellowjackets was under our star jasmine.

Part of the Jasmine climbs a lattice fence and then part of it makes a walkway to our shed from the fence like an arbor of sorts.

Our daughter Jeanelle walked under it and then she was bitten a few times. This could have been very dangerous if they had all attacked.

Thank goodness the grandkids were not stung.

Jack was able to find the hive and take care of it.

Sometimes they build hives in places you never would think about so always check around you house and in your bushes very well.

Cow Watcher

Mr. Bird the cat goes outside every morning and comes in every evening.

The only time that changes is when it is not a perfect weather day.

He does not like windy days, rainy days or days that are to hot or to cold. On those days he goes out and in a few times.

On this particular day I was taking pictures of the cows and he follows me around like a dog when I am taking pictures.

He spotted the big dogs ( cows ) across the street so he went into cow watching mode. They are normally in the back of the pasture not the front so naturally this got his attention.

I find the best pictures of animals are when they are just doing their thing.

Glamour Cow

I know I have said this 100 times or more but I love cows they have the best expressions.

They all have different personalities but this one likes to get her picture taken she kept looking at me and the camera.

I guess it goes to show you there are some glamour cows out there.

There are a lot of people who post ugly selfies on facebook that could learn a few lessons from this cow.

My Air Plant Display

I had been wanting some airplants for quite a while. I love how they look and they are fun to display in different ways.

Here are a few of mine but after I did the pictures I remembered that there were two more in our bedroom that did not get their pics taken.

I have them scattered through out the house in different locations.

I bought a large order of them and shared them with my sister Sheri. All the plants were in really good shape even though they were mail ordered.

They are a funny little plant I water these about every 5 days I find if not they dry out and start to shrivel. There is no soil, no rocks just some fake moss in a few of the containers for looks.

I made the concrete wire containers as well as the one on the stand. The shells and the salt lamp I already had.

Sometimes it is the tiny things in life that bring us such joy and can always put a smile on our face.

Baked Parmesean Squash

I had seen this recipe and wanted to try it.

We put up a lot of a squash this year so we have plenty to experiment with.

Cut yellow squash or zucchini into thin circles and place on large baking sheet with parchment paper first.

Sprinkle salt, pepper and garlic powder. Then sprinkle parmesean cheese .

Bake at 425 degrees for 15 – 20 minutes until parmesean is golden brown.

This was really good and something different to do with squash. A kid that does not like veggies much would love this.

Painted Gourd Birdhouses

Jack got down the gourds that my grandfather gave me 25+ years ago.

I knew I wanted to make birdhouses out of them someday but I kept forgetting about them.

They were quite dried out which is a good thing and they were full of seeds I can plant. Seeds do not expire lol. A ziplock bag of seeds out of each gourd.

These two are for our yard.

I have the third one primed for my sister Sheri who can paint it like she wants it painted.

I wanted these painted using the same technique but using different colors. I used metallic paints and then a coat of Marine Spar for protection and shine. The hole saw for the hole and the drill for the top holes for hanging.

The yellow and green one got rained on since it was already in a tree in the backyard. The blue ones home is being determined but I think it will go in the front yard.

Thank You to my grandfather ( Daddy Dub ) for my gourds even though it has taken me many years to get my project done.

Purple showers and barbed wire

We have purple showers planted everywhere around here they are easy to grow and invasive so they spread quickly.

The scientific name is Ruellia simplex ‘Purple Showers also known as mexican petunia.

There is something about flowers, fence post and barbed wire that I love.
